beachpackinglist travelessentials traveltips vacation vacationmusthaves

I'm not sure about you, but I feel like there’s something universally magical about a beach vacation. Whether you're jetting off to a tropical island or road-tripping to the nearest coastline, the combination of sun, sea, and sand is the perfect recipe for rest and rejuvenation.  Personally, I think I'm part mermaid.  My happy place?  When I can get in the water and snorkel for hours!  It's even better when I'm there with friends!

You want to make the most of every beachy moment, so before you dig your toes into the sand, let’s talk essentials. What should you pack? What should you plan? Here’s your complete guide to a dreamy beach escape—with all the must-haves and none of the stress.

I've included links to some of my faves in case you want to try them out! #commissionsearned

🏖️ Why a Beach Vacation?

The beach is a place to slow down, reset, and soak up natural beauty...the #1 reason????

  • Relaxation: The peaceful sound of waves naturally lowers stress levels.

🧳 Beach Vacation Must-Haves

Here’s what to bring to ensure a smooth and stylish getaway:

👙 1. Swimsuits (Pack at least 2)

Having a dry one ready is a game-changer. There's nothing worse than having to put on a wet suit!

🌞 2. Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Choose an eco-friendly formula that protects both your skin and marine life. Look for SPF 30+ and water resistance.  This is my fave:

Pro tip: Wear a rash guard when snorkeling...reduces amount of sunscreen you'll need to apply

🧢 3. Sun Protection Essentials

Don’t forget:

  • Wide-brimmed hat or cap.  I love this hat because it's easy to fold and throw in your beach bag:

  • UV-blocking sunglasses

  • Lightweight cover-up

🩴 4. Footwear

  • Flip-flops or sandals for the sand

  • Water shoes if you're exploring rocky shores or tide pools

🧺 5. Beach Bag Essentials

  • Towel (lightweight and quick-drying).  I like this one because it's also compact:

  • Snacks (trail mix, fruit, or energy bars)

  • Lip balm with SPF.  I'm in the water A LOT so this is my fave:

🎒 6. Tote

Ideal for carrying your essentials on excursions or boat tours.

💊 7. Mini First Aid Kit

Include band-aids, aloe vera gel (for sunburn), motion sickness tablets, and any personal medications.

🏝️ 8. Extras You’ll Be Glad You Packed

  • Wet bag for storing damp swimsuits (I'll put dry undergarments in mine in the morning so I'll have them when I take off my wet suit)

  • Ziplock bags for phones, snacks, or shells

🍹 What to Eat & Drink by the Shore

No beach vacation is complete without amazing local flavors.

  • Fresh seafood (fish & chips or fish tacos are ALWAYS on my list)

  • Fruity cocktails or mocktails (piña colada, mango smoothies)

  • Beach snacks (chips with guacamole or quesadillas for sure!)

Pro tip: Stay hydrated—sun + saltwater = dehydration waiting to happen.

📸 Capture the Moments

Bring a camera or use your phone to capture:

  • Sunrise and sunset beachscapes

  • Sand art or shell collections (like our 'LOVE' shell collection)

  • Local cuisine and cultural moments

Then? Put the phone down and be present. The best moments don’t need filters.

🧘 The Art of Doing Nothing

Give yourself permission to relax. Seriously.

  • No schedule? Great.

  • Listening to waves with your eyes closed? Perfect.

This is your time to unwind and recharge.

🚫 What NOT to Bring

  • Too much tech – leave the laptop at home (this is SO hard for me...but totally worth it and I'm so grateful when I leave it behind)

✨ Final Thought: Chase the Horizon

A beach vacation is one of the few times life slows down. Embrace that. Watch the tide. Breathe in salty air. Let your skin glow and your mind rest.

Just being near the sea has a way of reminding us what matters most.

Happy beaching!
